| Property owners in downtown Celina learned that the city is applying for funding through the state’s Downtown Revitalization Program. The city is trying to get $400,000 in Block Grant money to help business owners pay for improvements in code work, such as roofs, wiring, façade and structural problems. If the money is awarded, business owners would have to match the dollars of grant funds with their own money. Grant funds would be given with a $15,000 cap per building. Interested owners have to give a project idea, estimate and signed financial commitment for the city engineer department by the 22nd of this month. Property owners have from the spring of 2011 to the end of 2012 to finish any projects. At least 20 percent of the buildings in the downtown area must participate for the city to be eligible for any grant money. |
